Following in the footsteps of Alex Alvarez and his Forest Path Gnomon Workshop DVD's, I created these plants using Maya and rendered them via Mental Ray. You can actually procedurally generate and control these plants, along with many others, inside Maya. However, those plants are assigned Maya shaders instead of the nice Mental Ray shaders, so I went through and translated each of the Maya shader networks over to Mental Ray shaders allowing for more realistic renders. This render is more of a proof of concept than anything else. I would like to return to this in the future.
